So who wants to come out and play?
We've seen individuals who suffered limb loss or debilitating injury restored to their personal power, to their self-awareness, self-confidence, to life-long friendships, and to their ability to dream of future possibilities because of sport. Just about any sport you can think of has an adaptive version. From cycling, to tennis, shooting, soccer, basketball, volleyball, and even skydiving - there's an adaptive sport for just about everyone. And the victory in an adaptive sport is just as sweet, and sometimes sweeter, perhaps, than in "regular" sports. Adaptive athletes are male and female, younger and more mature, wheelers and "abbreviated" athletes.
Because of the Paralympic movement, adaptive athletes can also dream of Gold Medal glory. At present the Paralympics sanction 21 Summer Sport categories and four Winter Sport categories.
Some, like seated volleyball, adaptive badminton, and wheelchair curling, are building popularity around the world. If you, or someone you know is looking for others who like the same sports and activities you do, or who would like to try a sport or activity, let us know. We'll get things started from there. © 2006 Delaware Adaptive Sports Association Contact: Delaware Adaptive Sports (302) 683 - 0997 Web site designed and managed by Internet Marketing Strategies |
