Delaware Adaptive Sports Association

The Delaware Adaptive Sports Association was formed to identify, to develop, and to promote both recreational and competitive sports for the physically challenged in and near Delaware.

So who wants to come out and play?

Adaptive sports have power far beyond the playing field. They have the power to restore a sense of normalcy and the ability to create friendships.

We've seen individuals who suffered limb loss or debilitating injury restored to their personal power, to their self-awareness, self-confidence, to life-long friendships, and to their ability to dream of future possibilities because of sport.

Just about any sport you can think of has an adaptive version. From cycling, to tennis, shooting, soccer, basketball, volleyball, and even skydiving - there's an adaptive sport for just about everyone.

And the victory in an adaptive sport is just as sweet, and sometimes sweeter, perhaps, than in "regular" sports.

Adaptive athletes are male and female, younger and more mature, wheelers and "abbreviated" athletes.

The common denominator is the love of activity, the challenge of competition, and interacting with others just like ourselves.

Because of the Paralympic movement, adaptive athletes can also dream of Gold Medal glory. At present the Paralympics sanction 21 Summer Sport categories and four Winter Sport categories.

Some, like track and field, swimming, and wheelchair basketball are older, more familiar sports.

Some, like seated volleyball, adaptive badminton, and wheelchair curling, are building popularity around the world.

If you, or someone you know is looking for others who like the same sports and activities you do, or who would like to try a sport or activity, let us know. We'll get things started from there.
